We believe that when Oklahomans know of a need, they come together to meet that need. We also believe that the safety of our children is our greatest priority as spring weather becomes a threat again this year.
Almost immediately after the deadly tornado outbreak in May 2013 a debate over whether Oklahoma school campuses should be required to have accessible storm shelters began. From 1890 to present nearly 150 tornadoes have struck central Oklahoma and the bulk of those were during the late afternoon and early evening hours. A survey of Oklahoma schools showed that more than half a million students and teachers at Oklahoma schools are not protected from tornadoes like the one that destroyed two schools in Moore in 2013. More than 1,109 schools lack a safe area. It’s time that we protect our most valuable and most vulnerable while they are in our schools. This is our responsibility.
Please join us Saturday, May 3rd at 6:30 PM to raise money to provide storm shelters to schools in Pottawatomie County. The event will include dinner, live entertainment by two bands, as well as a live and silent auction. Tickets are $75 each or $1,000 for a table of eight. All proceeds will be used to purchase storm shelters that will keep our Pottawatomie County students safe during sever weather.
